Gary J. Cohen
Gary J. Cohen, who is “of counsel” to Summers, Levine & Kretzmer, has been practicing law in the Los Angeles area since 1975. Beginning in 1981 and continuing into 2006, Mr. Cohen divided his time between family law litigation and appellate court work. During these three and half decades, Mr. Cohen was, at different times, an associate, a partner and a member of two of the largest family law firms in the Los Angeles area. As a consequence, Mr. Cohen is intimately familiar with the day-to-day practice of family law, and has performed all of the tasks presented by such a practice.
Mr. Cohen’s experience has afforded him a broad range of opportunities in the appellate arena, including many writ proceedings challenging restraining orders, the scope of discovery and the reach of evidentiary privileges. Mr. Cohen’s numerous appeals have examined child support, spousal support, child custody, property division, reimbursement, attorneys’ fees, and fiduciary duty issues that have arisen at trials and order to show cause hearings, as well as post-judgment modification and enforcement proceedings.
Because several of Mr. Cohen’s appellate cases have been published by the Courts of Appeal, he has been invited to the study groups of Los Angeles area attorneys to discuss the published cases, the appellate process and preparing for appeals before judgment. He has also lectured at the Family Law Symposium sponsored by the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
Mr. Cohen is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell® and has been included on the Super Lawyers® list as both a family law attorney and as an appellate attorney.
